After studying fashion at Instituto Marangoni, Milan and the Epsom School of Art, London, Barbara Amelii and Alan Maughan first met in Milan in 2004 whilst working for separate fashion labels. In 2012, the two designers launched their own brand, BARBARA ALAN, and presented their first collection February 2013 during Milan Fashion Week to international praise and the special attention of Vouge Italia.
BARBARA ALAN is designed with a strong modernist aesthetic. Amelii and Maughan draw on their training and many years of experience, whilst working closely with some of the best talent and craftspeople within the industry, to make sure everything produced for BARBARA ALAN is highly researched with an extreme attention to detail and finish. The designers have the vision to look forward, using innovation in their design to give everything a unique and individual quality. They work with the latest advances in garment production, as well as using unconventional pattern cutting and construction to develop luxury and quality collections that are not only versatile but functional.
The Autumn/Winter 2016-17 collection, to be presented for the first time at Tranoï Homme, takes its inspiration from the traditional by stripping back and redesigning the wardrobe. Using quality Italian tailoring fabrics mixed with fine woollen knits and pure cottons, a stitchless patchwork of layers, featuring the finest detailing and sharp edges, are cut by laser and bonded together to finish the cleaner lines. Tones play with reflections of light to show the various shades of colour, from the darkest of blacks through to slate grey and light stone, contrasted with a touch pure optical white.
BARBARA ALAN is stocked in Isetan, Tokyo, Piaff Boutique, Lebanon and Bernardelli, XY and 519 in Italy.
